Orthopedic Surgery

We are able to perform many orthopedic (bone) procedures in our hospital. We work closely with a boarded veterinary surgeon who can come to our hospital to perform the procedure if needed.

Knee problems (called the stifle in dogs) are the most common orthopedic issue we schedule surgery for at our clinic. Large dogs can tear their cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) which is similar to an ACL tear in a person. Smaller dogs are predisposed to luxating patellas where their kneecap (patella) moves in and out of place and they can have CCL injuries as well. We can diagnose these common issues with a physical exam and X-rays, then work with you to make the best plan for your pet.

Leg fractures are also a common orthopedic problem presented to our clinic. We can splint the fracture, manage bandage changes until healed, and get the orthopedic surgeon involved quickly when needed.

Please contact us if you have any questions about these procedures or if you think your pet might benefit from them.
